Mayor Kirkham joins Premier Clark on trade mission to China

District of Squamish Mayor Rob Kirkham is accompanying Premier Christy Clark on the Premier-led trade mission to Asia, which begins today. Mayor Kirkham will participate in the China portion of the mission; the full provincial mission will visit China, Korea and Japan to deepen British Columbia's relationships with those key Asian markets.

Mayor Kirkham was invited to attend the Premier's trade mission by The Woodfibre LNG Project, at their expense, and was strongly urged by the Premier’s office to attend. This mission presents a significant opportunity for the Mayor to identify and pursue investment and economic development opportunities for Squamish, and to promote Squamish's many assets ranging from education to tourism offerings.

The Premier-led mission will advance liquefied natural gas (LNG) development opportunities and promote the province as a stable and attractive destination for trade and investment, including the establishment of Asian corporations' North American headquarters in B.C.

The Mayor will accompany the Premier, the Minister of International Trade and two deputy Ministers on a side trip from Beijing to Nantong to tour the Woodfibre/LNG's Rudong/Nantong import facility in China. Woodfibre/LNG senior executives are hosting the tour.

The Woodfibre LNG Project is owned and operated by Woodfibre Natural Gas Limited, a corporation established in British Columbia with offices in Vancouver (headquarters) and Calgary, and with plans to open an office in Squamish.

The Province of BC has issued this news release regarding the full Asia trade mission.
