Some in-person services are now available at Municipal Hall

Virtual transactions are still encouraged when possible to limit lineups

The District of Squamish has resumed front counter services at Municipal Hall in line with Phase 2 of the BC Restart Plan. While Municipal Hall functions have remained in place virtually, the District now offers in-person service between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Seniors Hours will take place from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. daily, and seniors will be prioritized throughout the day.

Physical distancing, enhanced sanitization protocols and customer limits are in place and all customers will be greeted by a District of Squamish staff member who will provide assistance and direction. The number of customers will be limited to two at any one time, and therefore customers will be asked to form a line outside of the building until they can be accommodated.

“We are entering Phase 2 with the safety of our employees and patrons top of mind,” says District of Squamish Mayor Karen Elliott. “Municipal Hall hasn’t been the same without the comings and goings of our citizens and customers.  Our staff are working hard to continue to provide great customer service online, by phone and when absolutely required, face-to-face. Like many others, we will follow the orders and advice of public health and continually reassess our services through each phase of BC’s Restart Plan to ensure we’re meeting the expectations of our staff and citizens. We appreciate everyone’s patience as we open our doors again under new protocols and procedures.

In-person transactions offered include purchase of transit passes, property tax and utility payments, dog licences, business licences and building permits. With the busy property tax payments season just ahead, citizens are encouraged to pay via online banking or utilize the front entrance drop box to deliver a cheque. The Home Owner Grant can also be claimed online.

Municipal Hall operations are guided by a Safety Plan that has been developed based on WorkSafeBC requirements and Provincial Health Order and Guidelines, especially as they pertain to limiting gatherings to less than 50 people, and the continued requirement to physically distance and practice good hygiene.

Virtual services continue to be offered to limit the number of people needing to access the Hall. The public is encouraged to continue to access District services online or by phone when at all possible. A list of services is available at squamish.ca/covid-19.

Council meetings continue to be held electronically and streamed live at squamish.ca/live-meeting with a new online meeting platform launching this month that will enable the opportunity for greater public participation.

Residents can expect information regarding the re-opening of additional District facilities in the weeks ahead.
