Woodfibre LNG and FortisBC Eagle Mountain Gas pipeline project update
On Tuesday at the Regular Council meeting, District of Squamish staff presented an update to Council on the staff work relating to the Woodfibre LNG and FortisBC Eagle Mountain Gas pipeline project. This is the third such report. This report outlines project activities between July 1 and September 30, 2023.
In addition to the report (linked below), staff updated Council on two additional items with timely/recent updates:
- Capacity funding requests – The District is seeking alternate means to fund the significant amount of District work required for these projects (beyond taxpayer funding) to address the exponential increase in staff workloads related to both projects while staff continue to deliver equitable service to the community and keep strategic goals moving forward.
- Line pipe transportation - Starting October 23, FortisBC contractors will begin transporting steel pipe, commonly referred to as line pipe from Squamish Terminals to the FortisBC construction staging property at the BC Rail Properties.
- Deliveries to occur Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., over three weeks.
- FortisBC anticipates deliveries will add approximately five trucks per hour to existing traffic volumes.
- Trucks will travel on the District’s designated truck route: Third Avenue, Vancouver Street, Loggers Lane, Cleveland Avenue, Highway 99, Industrial Way, Queens Way and Government Road.
- FortisBC provides details at: https://talkingenergy.ca/project/eagle-mountain-woodfibre-gas-pipeline-project.
- A FortisBC customer relations information line and email address are available: 1.855.380.5784 and egp@fortisbc.com.
District staff are fully engaged in understanding the details of the pipe transportation plan from the FortisBC team and planning for District community readiness. As the transportation of the pipe gets underway, staff will remain in close contact with FortisBC to monitor any issues that may arise. The District is aware of FortisBC’s intent to provide transparent, accessible and ongoing community information.
