Dentville Park
The District of Squamish has constructed Dentville Park, a new neighbourhood park located on Buckley Avenue between Carson Place and Britannia Avenue. The park is nearing completion.
Background:
Park improvements for the Dentville and Wilson Crescent area have been identified as a need for some time. Community input was invited in 2017 to help shape the playground and park features through an online questionnaire and in-person public engagement events. (View the public engagement results here.) .
Park Features:
The Dentville Park playground will consist of play structures features chosen for the community by the community:
The park includes the top three play features chosen by the community:
- Multi-play structure (50%)
- Swings (36%)
- Natural equipment (33%)
In addition, the playground will also include the following features:
- Zipline
- Covered shelters with an accessible picnic tables
- Plaza area with bench seating
- Bike Racks and a multi-use pathway connection to Discovery Trail
Construction:
Tree removal work will occur with the objective of retaining as many healthy trees as possible. The park has been actively designed with arborists in order to keep six healthy trees in the park area. Tree removal will be limited to removing young trees, unhealthy "dead wood" trees and trees identified as danger trees.
A number of larger alder trees located on Buckley Avenue have been identified for removal as part of this work because they are nearing their life expectancy and will become fall hazards. These trees will be replaced with a mix of native coniferous and deciduous trees to grow a healthy long standing treed barrier from the road and the new park.
