Ice build-up due to freezing rain is expected or occurring
Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for Sea to Sky, Squamish to Whistler.
Warm, moist air from an approaching Pacific frontal will begin to move over a shallow surface layer of arctic air late Thursday, January 4. Periods of freezing rain are forecast to develop late this afternoon and will continue through tonight and Friday morning. The temperature is expected to rise above the freezing mark near noon on Friday, January 5. A few millimetres of ice accretion is expected.
Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and hazardous. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break.
Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions. Please adjust to winter driving behaviour and use winter tires and chains.
