Potential Transit Service Disruption

UPDATE, January 18, 2016 - There has been no further indication at this time regarding possible service disruption due to job action as a result of a labour dispute between BC Transit's contractor and its unionized employees. The Union has indicated in the media that they will notify the public 24 hours in advance of any job action. We will continue to closely monitor to the situation and update with any new information we receive.

BC Transit, provider of transit service in Squamish, has informed the District of Squamish that there is the potential for transit service disruption beginning as early as Saturday, January 16. This is due to a labour dispute between BC Transit’s contractor - Diversified Transportation - and their unionized employees. This potential job action does not affect handyDART services for medical trips or other essential service trips in Squamish.

The District is in close contact with BC Transit as this situation unfolds. We work with BC Transit very closely on service delivery to the community, and in a situation like this, will continue to represent our residents’ interests to the greatest degree possible. We are very concerned for those who may be impacted by this issue.

Please visit the BC Transit website for their news release. We will continue to provide updates to the community as we learn more.
