Warming Centre open at Brennan Park Recreation Centre for those experiencing power outages

The District of Squamish is providing a warming centre at Brennan Park Recreation Centre for anyone who may be affected by power outages in Squamish.

Though the warming centre will be open, it is currently operating on back up generators.  Residents who utilize the facility will therefore not be permitted to plug-in chargers for mobile devices, tablets, laptops or gaming consoles. Residents are also being encouraged to consider staying with a friend or family in a location with power as a first option.

All recreation programming scheduled for Friday, January 7 has been cancelled due to lack of power.

Regularly scheduled programming will resume Saturday, January 8 at 9 a.m., provided power to the facility has been restored.

The warming centre will be available during the Recreation Centre's operating hours as listed below:

Friday, January 7

 4 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Saturday, January 8

 9 a.m. - 8 p.m.

*Please access Brennan Park Recreation Centre via the Pool entrance doors located on the south side of the building.

The warming centre will be unsupervised with limited services or amenities provided due to COVID-19 considerations. Residents are asked to bring their own entertainment to pass the time such as books, or colouring materials for children.

The District is following Vancouver Coastal Health’s guidance for community warming centres in the context of COVID-19 and will adhere to all hygiene, cleaning and ventilation protocols. Masks must be worn at all times and physical distance must be maintained.
