Government Road Watermain Upgrades (Centennial Way to Viking Ridge)

Details:

The District's next watermain replacement is an important stretch along Government Road, from Centennial Way extending north past Mamquam Road towards Viking Ridge. 650 metres of watermain will be replaced this summer. This existing infrastructure that delivers drinking water to residents is over 60 years old and has reached the end of its lifespan.

September 14 update: Paving will take place from September 21 to September 25, weather permitting. Please expect delays and single lane alternating traffic. Watch for and obey traffic control personnel. Plan your route around this area if possible.

Impacts:

  • For residents directly along the route, access will be maintained and the trench will be plated and patched every evening.
  • Expect delays and single-lane alternating traffic.
  • To avoid delays, plan your route around the work areas whenever possible.
  • Expect possible vibration and noise during construction.
  • A temporary water shut-off (approximately 8 hours long) will be required upon final tie-in of the residential water connections to the new watermain at the end of the project. Residents who are impacted will be given plenty of notice in order to plan ahead.

Timeframe:

  • Construction is expected to take 8 weeks, beginning the first week of June.  Work will take place between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
