Garibaldi Estates Neighbourhood Planning Process - community workshops (Area 4)

When: June 26 - 06:00pm - 08:00pm

Where: Saint John The Divine Church, 1930 Diamond Road.

The District is launching Stage 4 of the Garibaldi Neighbourhood Planning Process. We would like to invite you to one of our four workshop events where staff will be presenting a draft of the Garibaldi Estates Neighbourhood Plan. Each workshop will provide a copy of the same draft plan, however staff will provide detailed information specific to the subarea featured for that night. Each session will offer:

  • Information about the draft plan updates with an opportunity to ask questions.
  • A focus on specific neighbourhood areas to support a more in-depth discussion.
  • An opportunity to workshop your ideas on the plan’s policies with your neighbours.
  • An opportunity to discuss potential actions to mitigate both short-term and long-term challenges.

Mamquam road already needs an extra lane that can turn left on the highway. It takes a while for commuters on garibaldi way, Kalodon and Diamond Head roads to get onto Mamquam currently. It is going to get way worse after increase in density. So proactive measures are needed.

It may be better for the district to preapprove a few standard designs for possible duplexes, triplexes and fourplexes to avoid delays in the permitting process. And make them available for a nominal fee as an incentive. Try to retain or encourage as much green cover as possible. Maybe propose an incentive for extra green cover.

Try for public mid block connections from Garibaldi way to the commercial area. This can be used by pedestrians and bikers. Tie in an incentive for the affected property owner in form of higher density or lower fees etc.
