Cheekye Fan Hazard Studies Presented to Council

The Cheekye Fan is an alluvial fan, a formation found in mountainous regions where deposits of alluvial sedimentation and material from debris flows and debris floods accrue over time. Natural hazards common to this type of fan include stream floods, deposition of sediment, erosion of new channels, avulsions (a sudden shift in the channel of a stream or river) debris floods and debris flows.

Discussion of the Cheekye Fan hazard and possible mitigation efforts recently came in front of Council (July 15, 2014) for review. This took place in advance of a Zoning and Official Community Plan (OCP) amendment, submitted by Cheekye River Developments Ltd. for a development project within this area, and now available for review on the District's Development Showcase.

Information and copies of the reports shared with Council on July 15 are available on our website.
