District facilities and spring break programs continue operations for now

Changes will be made as necessary following provincial health authority recommendations

District of Squamish staff are vigilantly monitoring the recommendations of Vancouver Coastal Health and the B.C. Centre for Disease Control and at this time, all Squamish Recreation Services programs and camps are continuing as scheduled. District facilities remain open to the public, including Brennan Park Recreation Centre, The 55 Activity Centre, Squamish Public Library and Squamish Adventure Centre.

The District of Squamish is working to share information and operational updates as we support efforts to slow transmission of COVID-19 and help keep our community healthy.

“The health and safety of our community is of the utmost importance. We are following provincial recommendations, and recognizing that many of our residents rely on our programming, especially when school is out of session,” says District of Squamish Mayor Karen Elliott. “Health authority recommendations at this time do not include the closure of public facilities, and we will adjust over the coming days if recommendations change. We also understand that there are varying comfort levels amongst our residents and respect personal decisions about whether to participate in programs and attend our facilities.”

Squamish Recreation Services will waive its cancellation policy on all programs and Spring Break camps until further notice to allow patrons to make the choices that best fit their needs, without financial penalty.

Residents should refrain from attending programs or visiting public facilities or any drop-in activities if they are experiencing any illness whatsoever. If you have symptoms such as fever, cough and difficulty breathing, please call your health care professional immediately, or contact the Health Information line at 8-1-1.

The District is redeploying staff resources to ensure additional facility sanitation focusing on high-touch surfaces. Increased signage regarding recommended hygiene practices has been posted, and staff are following official advice and required to stay home if they feel unwell.

For any program withdrawals or further information contact Squamish Recreation Services at 604.898.3604 or recreationcustomerservice@squamish.ca.

The District will continue to review the situation daily as any new recommendations are shared by provincial health agencies. Community updates will be posted as needed as information changes.  For community updates and resources please visit squamish.ca/COVID-19.
