District of Squamish introduces new Bylaw and Animal Control Manager

The District of Squamish is pleased to announce that Richard Farina has joined the District as the new Bylaw Manager. Farina has replaced former manager Kristine Day who left the District in late July to pursue a new opportunity with the RCMP.

Farina brings over 30 years of law enforcement and liquor control and licensing experience to his role. Born and raised in the Lower Mainland, he has called Surrey home for the past 32 years and is excited about his move to Squamish.

“I’m very much looking forward to this new and exciting challenge, and am particularly enthusiastic about the lifestyle change that moving to Squamish offers,” says Farina. “I believe Squamish to be a friendly, warm and inviting place and I look forward to quickly becoming entrenched in the community through my work with the Bylaw and Animal Control team.”

Farina’s vast experience covers the gamut from operational patrol and investigations to community policing and victim services. He has experience working on graffiti reduction programs as well as community engagement through a variety of tactics including officer public relations programs.

“The District is very pleased to welcome Rick and his experience to our team,” says Corien Speaker, District of Squamish Chief Administrative Officer. “The Bylaw and Animal Control officers provide a vital service to the residents and businesses to help ensure a safe and liveable community. Building on that program with the right balance of education to gain voluntary compliance, and enforcement when necessary is critical to the ongoing success of the program. Rick’s experience and success in striking this balance will be extremely beneficial to us.”
