District of Squamish Launches Organics Curbside Collection Survey

Waste reduction can be a hot topic, especially in a town where a new organics curbside collection program has changed the way we handle our garbage. The District of Squamish has launched a survey that will provide residents with an opportunity to share their feedback about the food scraps and yard waste curbside collection program to determine which areas of the program could be improved. The survey is available online here.

In less than six months, the District of Squamish organics program resulted in a curbside garbage collection decrease of 14.6%, the equivalent of 174 metric tonnes.

However, as with any new program, there is always an opportunity to make it better.

The goal of the five-minute survey is to gain a better understanding from the community on how often the organics totes are being used as well as what might be getting in the way of using them more often. The survey also addresses the question of whether or not residents would be willing to participate in a weekly organics collection program during the summer months of June to September.

The Food Scraps and Yard Waste Survey will be active online until November 20. Hard copies of the survey are available at Municipal Hall.
