District to host Budget Open Mic community engagement session January 30

Following three months of budget workshops and talks, District of Squamish Council and staff are hosting a Budget Open Mic community event on the proposed 2018 District of Squamish Budget to answer community questions and to facilitate candid, open discussion on how the municipal budget is allocated. The event will take place on Tuesday, January 30 from 6 to 9 p.m. in Council Chambers at Municipal Hall.

“Public engagement is a key part of the budgeting process, however we also recognize that it takes time and a certain level of commitment that isn’t always easy to achieve,” says District of Squamish Mayor Patricia Heintzman. “We’re making it as easy and convenient as possible for the community to ask questions and be part of the discussions as the process moves toward the finish line. If you’re passionate or curious about a particular project or service area, this is your opportunity to be part of the conversation.”

The Budget Open Mic event will begin with an hour of informal conversation-time with Council and staff, followed by a formal presentation and open-mic style question and answer session beginning at 7 p.m. Live streaming of the event will begin at 7 p.m. here. Questions may also be submitted via email to budgetfeedback@squamish.ca or through the District’s Facebook and Twitter channels.

The 2018 budget process officially kicked off on November 14 and has included several budget workshops, a community survey, an interactive online tool and Budget displays at District facilities.
