Donation drive in place for residents affected by Emerald Place fire

MountainFM has set up a donation drive for the residents of five townhouse units in Emerald Place Estates who were affected by the December 13 residential fire. 

Some residents have requested financial donations to help offset the cost of the insurance deductible. Others have suggested that community members who have a desire to make donations could consider giving to organizations supporting struggling families in the corridor.

One resident that had their unit severely damaged did not have insurance and has lost everything.

The following donations are now being accepted: 

• Cash donations
  • An account at Van City has been setup where you can make financial donations to Squamish Savings “In trust for Emerald Place fire” Account #10100075492715
• Physical donations
  • The resident who was not insured and lost everything has requested the following items.
    • Household items e.g. furniture (living room, kitchen, bedroom etc), dishes, cookware and kitchen items, linens, towels, bedding etc.
    • Assistance finding a new place to live.
      • Ideally a ground level apartment.
    • Telephones
      • Cellphone & landline.
• Donation drop-off
• You can drop-off smaller donations to the Squamish MountainFM studio located at Unit 202 – 40147 Glenalder Place, Monday to Friday between 8am-2pm. Please e-mail marshall.whitsed@rci.rogers.com prior to dropping items at MountainFM and we will respond letting you know if the item is still needed.
• Please do not drop-off items that cannot be transported in an SUV. For larger items e.g. large furniture please e-mail marshall.whitsed@rci.rogers.com and we will connect you with evacuees if the item is still needed.
• Deadline for dropping off items at MountainFM is December 21 at 2 p.m. The goal is to deliver the items the following day, in time for Christmas.
• Please do not drop-off items without first e-mailing Mountain FM to see if the item is still needed.
