Expect brief traffic disruption on Highway 99 during Squamish Nation Peace March

Squamish RCMP and the North Vancouver Integrated First Nations Unit (IFNU) will be assisting Squamish Nations with a Peace March from Howe Sound Secondary to Stawamus Elementary School beginning at approximately 11:45 a.m. today. Approximately 100 students will be participating in the event.

Squamish RCMP and IFNU will be blocking the intersection of Cleveland Avenue and Highway 99 to ensure all participants cross the highway safely. Please expect a brief delay on Highway 99 of approximately 10 to 15 minutes in order for students to cross.

Squamish RCMP, IFNU, and the District of Squamish are working together with the Squamish Nation to ensure their important journey for the Sea to Sky Aboriginal Leadership Student Group is supported and their Peace March message is provided a platform.

"The District of Squamish is inspired to see students stand up for these important issues and to point out that change is needed" stated Mayor Karen Elliott. "Staying silent is not an option and the young voices in our community are incredibly powerful. We support their efforts, and appeal to community members to be on the lookout for the students as they march and have patience if roads are temporarily blocked."

Please exercise caution and watch for students as they march during this time. Thank you for your patience.
