High Streamflow Advisory in effect for Howe Sound

The River Forecast Centre is maintaining a High Streamflow Advisory for Howe Sound including the Stawamus River and tributaries along the Sea to Sky Highway.

A High Streamflow Advisory means that river levels are rising or expected to rise rapidly, but that no major flooding is expected.  Minor flooding in low-lying areas is possible.

River levels are expected to rise on Thursday in response to this rainfall. Cumulative rainfall amounts over the past week have made lake-fed river systems the most vulnerable to high flows.

Residents are urged to use extra caution around all local waterways and tributaries, and keep well back from the river banks - especially with children and pets. A rapid rise of water levels can be expected.

Drier weather on Friday will allow for general improvement in river conditions across the region into the weekend.

The River Forecast Centre will continue to monitor conditions and update this advisory as conditions warrant.
