High streamflow advisory issued for Howe Sound and the Stawamus River

A high streamflow advisory has been issued by the River Forecast Centre for the South Coast, including Howe Sound and the Stawamus River. Residents are urged to use extra caution around all local waterways and tributaries, and keep well back from the river banks - especially with children and pets. A rapid rise of water levels can be expected.

Streamflow response to this current storm will be complex in Howe Sound and the North Shore due to the potential for rain-on-snow scenarios on Thursday. Rapid melt of shallow mid-elevation snow packs is possible and will contribute an added pulse to runoff from the storm. With gradually increasing temperatures on Thursday and increasing rainfall, streamflows are expected to rise rapidly overnight Thursday and Friday morning.

The full advisory is available here.
