KidSport and Brennan Park Recreation Centre team up for Open House this Saturday, September 16

The community is invited to Brennan Park Recreation Centre this Saturday for an open house to showcase the many youth sport programs available throughout the District of Squamish. A barbeque by donation, demonstrations, and free public skating is available. Kidsport will be on hand to highlight financial aid options to support families in need. The event will take place Saturday September 16, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The District of Squamish donates 25 per cent of advertising revenue to support youth who face financial barriers to playing sports.  Mayor Patricia Heintzman will present a $2,500 donation to be shared by KidSport and Jumpstart at Saturday’s event, at 1 p.m.

“Recreation is one of the pillars upon which our community is built, and so it is extremely important to us to ensure that recreation programs are available to every young person,” says District of Squamish Mayor Patricia Heintzman. “There are many incredible people doing great work in Squamish to make this happen, and we look forward to recognizing some of these efforts on Saturday.”

Both KidSport and Jumpstart are founded on the belief that all kids should be given an opportunity to experience the positive benefits of organized sports, and to not be constrained by financial barriers. The District of Squamish is proud to support these organizations where the donations stay in the community and help Squamish kids.

Saturday’s open house will feature a wide range of community sports groups, interactive demonstrations, a barbeque by donation, and loads of fun for the whole family. Information will be available on how to register for the various youth sport programs in the community. Public skate is available from noon to 2:15 p.m.; free skate rentals are available.
