Notice of Elector Alternative Approval Process

The District of Squamish proposes to refinance the current $8.1 million Oceanfront Lands debt over a maximum of 20 years, enabling the District to more effectively manage the debt repayment schedule. This proposal will avoid depleting District of Squamish reserves and/or significantly raising taxes to cover balloon payments, while completion of the sale of the Oceanfront land and subsequent repayment of the debt is pending. An Alternative Approval Process is required for this to proceed.

An Alternative Approval Process requires that citizens opposed to this bylaw sign and submit an Elector Response Form by the deadline of 5:00 p.m. on May 11, 2015. If after the deadline, at least 1,282 electors (10% of qualified electors) have signed and submitted Elector Response Forms, the District of Squamish Council may not adopt the Bylaw unless it receives assent of the electors by voting.

Full details of this proposal and a Frequently Asked Questions are available on our website.
