Open Fire Ban in effect July 17, 2014

Effective July 17, 2014 at noon, all open fires within the District of Squamish are prohibited. Current backyard campfire permits are suspended until further notice.   The continuing hot and dry conditions have raised the fire hazard prompting the open fire ban to reduce the risk of human-caused wildfires.

This ban follows Coastal Fire Centre Wildfire Management Branch opening burning prohibition that covers all BC Parks, Crown lands and private lands outside of areas covered by local fire prevention bylaw.

The fire ban applies to all open fires, campfires, wood-burning pits, and backyard fireplaces on public and private lands, including residences within the District of Squamish boundaries. This ban does not restrict the use of gas or propane-fuelled stoves manufactured for heating or cooking.

The open fire ban will remain in effect until further notice.
