Sanitary sewer cleaning and inspection gets underway

January 9, 2015, 3:30 p.m. - The District of Squamish has contracted Dougness Holdings Ltd. to conduct a sanitary sewer inspection in Valleycliffe, Hospital Hill and the Stawamus Reserve.  The survey will consist of flushing and a closed circuit television (CCTV) camera inspection to assess the condition of the sewer. Video inspection of the sewers allows the District to identify problems and plan for maintenance and repair works. Working hours will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday beginning the week of January 12, 2015 through February 23, 2015.

The scope of the work includes:

Residents should be aware that during the flushing and cleaning operations of the sanitary sewer mains, there is a chance that the additional pressure in the sewer can cause splashing of water in toilets at houses with inadequate venting. Any splashing that does occur is strictly from water in the toilets and not from actual sewage in the mains. To minimize potential disruption, residents should keep their toilets flushed and toilet lids down.

Hand delivered notices will be provided to residences seven days prior to any activity on each street. Homeowners are not required to be at home while this work is being done. However, if at home and any issues are encountered, the nearby field crew can be contacted at 604.826.7297. Alternatively, contact the District of Squamish Engineering Technician, Sam Skalsvik, at 604.815.8978 to notify the crew.

District Engineering staff thank you in advance for your cooperation.
