Squamish ranks No. 15 in Canada’s Best Places for Business rankings

Canadian Business and PROFIT today ranked Squamish No. 15 on the 2016 ranking of Canada's Best Places for Business. Data was collected from 219 communities and a top 25 list has been released.

Produced by two of the country's best-known business media outlets — Canadian Business and PROFIT — the 2016 Canada's Best Places for Business ranking factors in more than 20 indicators of cost, market trends and business friendliness collected from various sources and participating municipalities. The ranking is designed to help entrepreneurs and executives make smarter decisions on where to start, expand or relocate their enterprises.

“Squamish has been on an upwards trajectory and this ranking highlights some of the successes we are seeing, and at the same time motivates us to further refine our processes to become even more business-friendly,” says District of Squamish Mayor Patricia Heintzman. “We are attracting a talent-rich pool of new residents who are working in future-focussed economic sectors. We are now starting to see that this critical mass of talent is enticing new businesses here, and that’s very exciting! This is a huge motivator to continue to work to better the business environment.”

Squamish’s organic entrepreneurial spirit coupled with residents’ deep passion for the outdoors, a growing and unique arts and culture scene, and a strong focus on education through Quest University Canada and the many unique School District programs and independent schools, make it the perfect place to invest and call home.

“This community’s passion for an outdoor lifestyle and commitment to support local business is inspiring,” continues Heintzman. “Our community works together, synergies are strong, and the result is a dynamic and attractive environment for business, that is getting better with every small step we continue to take.”

“It takes the support of an entire community to foster successful businesses,” says James Cowan, Editor-in-chief of Canadian Business and PROFIT. “The municipalities on our ranking show a clear commitment to business-friendly policies and economic development. That’s good news for their business owners, entrepreneurs and residents."
