Timber fire declared "out"; trails are now open

Squamish Fire Rescue and the BC Wildfire Service have officially declared the timber fire "out" and Jack's Trail is now open.

Special thanks to Squamish's local fire fighters and the swift response of the BC Wildfire Service, along with various local contractors and operations staff who supported the response effort which began Saturday evening.

Officials would like to remind everyone to be extremely careful in the forests; be aware and vigilant of activities that may cause sparks and ignite fire, and manage open campfires within permitted guidelines. One small spark can lead to catastrophic results. Open fire bans, which are generally set in concert with the province to ensure a consistent message, are not currently in place. The current Fire Danger Rating is 'moderate'.

With the May long weekend approaching, residents are reminded that fireworks are no longer permitted except for special celebratory holidays such as New Year's Eve, at the discretion of the Fire Chief.

Timber fire update/trail closure remains in effect

Squamish Fire Rescue and BC Wildfire Service were back on scene Monday at the small timber fire that began Saturday evening. Crews were working on four hot spots which were identified following a thermal scan of the area. Squamish Fire Rescue has since removed the District’s firefighting equipment from the area, and will return on Wednesday morning to complete a final thermal scan to ensure that the previous hot spots are cold, and that no further spots are developing.

Jack’s Trail and area remains closed until the final assessment is completed Wednesday. An update will be provided at this time on the status of the trail closure.
