Vegetation maintenance begins on Mamquam River dike

The District has begun vegetation maintenance along the river side of the Mamquam River dike (south side). This important work, which will include brush and tree removal from the rip rap, is required to retain the ongoing integrity of our flood protection infrastructure.

District crews are working with a Qualified Environmental Professional on-site and necessary approvals are in place. The dike is not closed to the public, however we ask you to please exercise caution when in the area.

The work has begun east of Highway 99 along Centennial Way, will progress west towards the CN Railway bridge, and is expected to be complete by December 15. This is the first phase of a multi-year vegetation management plan for the dikes, which incorporates 22 kilometres of diking throughout the community.
