Cross this off your summer to-do list: Squamish residents reminded to license dogs and register chickens

Residents are being reminded to license their dogs and register their backyard hens as part of an educational campaign aimed to increase the number of dog licence and chicken registrations in Squamish.

What you should know:

Urban Hens:

All urban hens must be registered and enclosed by electric fence to prevent wildlife conflicts. To be considered registered, the District must receive and approve a registry application. Click here to launch the Registry Application.
All urban hen food that is stored outdoors must be secured from vermin and wildlife.
Residents on a residential lot are permitted up to a maximum of five urban hens and must be a resident of the property where the urban hens are kept.
Roosters are prohibited.

Dogs:

Annual licences are required for all dogs over the age of eight weeks within the District of Squamish.
Dogs must display a current licence tag at all times.

Dog licences are available for purchase at Municipal Hall and Squamish Animal Control located at 39903 Government Road.

The keeping of unlicensed dogs and unregistered hens are fineable offences under the District of Squamish Animal Bylaw.
