The Final Parks and Recreation Master Plan is now available for review.
In January 2012, the District of Squamish initiated the Parks and Recreation Master Plan project. The project includes:
The Plan will reinforce Squamish’s identity as the ‘Outdoor Recreation Capital of Canada.’
Feedback has now been incorporated into the Final Plan and Appendices (Appendices A, B, C, D, F and Appendix E Maps). The Final Draft was presented to Council Committee of the Whole on February 19th 2013. The Final Parks and Recreation Master Plan will be presented at the Regular Council meeting on April 2, 2013, for adoption.
January 2012: |
Project start-up – On January 17, 2012, Lees and Associates were selected by Council to carry out the project. |
February – May: |
In the first several months of the project background information was collected, a parks and recreation tour of the community took place, a telephone survey was initiated by Mustel Research Group, and two events were held (a Council workshop and the kick-off public forum on March 28, 2012). |

On June 11, 2012 a second Public Forum was held. |
July - September: |
Information review, analysis, and strategic planning. The first draft of the Master Plan was prepared. |

Online survey results and email comments.
The third and final public forum took place on October 24, 2012 at the Senior’s Centre. The forum presented draft recommendations to the public for feedback. Recommendations respond to the issues identified affecting parks, recreation facilities, recreation programs, and related arts and culture.
The draft recommendations were presented on information panels which can be viewed electronically here. The community was invited to provide feedback on these panels either online or via a hard copy feedback form. The deadline for feedback was Friday, November 9, 2012.

Stakeholder Interviews: Recreation groups in the community had the opportunity to liaise with the planning team, providing their perspective on recreation services and facilities in Squamish, and contributing to the plan. Further stakeholder meetings may be arranged with certain interest groups on a case by case basis.
Public Forums: The project includes three public forums, in March, June and October.
